Baku's magnificent Heydar Aliyev International Airport is many people's first contact with Azerbaijan, and it leaves quite an impression. An intricate wooden lattice shell covers the edges of each floor, and the huge domed roof is punctuated by hexagonal skylights, bathing new arrivals in the Azerbaijani sunshine.
